Our Model.

We Cultivate a Spirit of Independence in Our Learners.

Learning at Arrow Academy is fundamentally built on the premise that we should teach children in the ways in which they learn by making learning fun, exciting and engaging. Our aim is to equip our learners with 21st century skills and key competencies that will see them flourish in a modern economy. Our models include:
Master Teacher Model:
The Master Teacher Model is where subject matter experts teach a specific subject to the whole Grade, with a specific focus on numeracy and literacy. The rest of the learning areas are taught by learning facilitators. The Master Teacher Model feeds into our teaching philosophy of engaging learners throughout the learning process. Arrow Academy uses Impaq’s lesson material. The CAPS-aligned material is developed by education experts and comes with facilitator guides that are embedded with well-thought-out teaching methodologies, which can be applied in a classroom environment. Learners also have a choice between Afrikaans and IsiZulu for first additional languages.
Our classrooms:
Arrow classrooms comfortably accommodate 30 learners who are taught in groups of 6 – 10 learners at any given time. The classes follow a rotational model with three to five groups that are all busy with different activities for a set period of time and then the groups move to the next task and rotate across all stations to complete the work. This ensures that all children are fully engaged in the different tasks, learn to complete self-directed activities on their own, and allows the teacher to spend enough time with a small group of children as new concepts are introduced and reinforced.
The use of technology in the classroom:
Online education programmes and software specifically focused on numeracy and literacy are well integrated as part of the learning programme and form part of the learning stations in the classroom. We focus on blended learning techniques that leverage technology as a learning tool – the smart way. We introduce e-learning in intermediate phase to our learners through the ITSI-platform.

Early Childhood Phase (Grade RRR – R)

We focus on play! Children learn best by doing and being involved in structured and unstructured play.

Foundation Phase (Grade 1 – 3)

We focus on building! It is important that, in the formative years of a child’s education, they build the necessary foundation skills needed for learning.

Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 5)

In the intermediate phase, the focus shifts to achieving greater learner autonomy in the classroom. Teachers focus on strengthening and further extending on competence-based curriculum and 21st century teaching methods.
Our learner materials, designed and published by Impaq, are built on an established learner-centred curriculum that is used by over 16 000 learners across the country.
